The rising Japanese girl group XG has addressed concerns following the arrest of their producer, Junho Sakai – known professionally as Simon Jakops – earlier this week in Tokyo. Authorities apprehended Sakai and three other men on Monday, February 23rd, on suspicion of violating Japan’s Narcotic Control Law, according to reports.

In a statement released on social media on Tuesday, February 25th, XG affirmed they have “no involvement” in the matter. The group emphasized their commitment to the well-being of their members, stating they are “prioritising the safety and physical and mental well-being of our artists and will continue to provide them with full support.”

The statement continued with a message directed to their fanbase, known as ALPHAZ, acknowledging the shock and confusion surrounding the news. “We were deeply shocked and confused by the sudden news, and we are still trying to process it ourselves… We will continue, as we always have, to face our music with sincerity and dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly to our activities as XG,” the group said.

The arrest comes as XG is currently embarked on their XG World Tour: The Core, a global tour scheduled to continue through April. During a late-night search of a hotel room, investigators allegedly discovered four bags containing a white powder believed to be cocaine, as well as a bag of what authorities suspect is dried cannabis. Two of the arrested individuals are reportedly employees of Avex Inc., the Japanese entertainment giant that manages XG through a subsidiary.
