Xi Jinping’s New Year Message Inspires Overseas Chinese to Pursue National Rejuvenation
Beijing – Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered his 2026 New Year message on New Year’s Eve, extending greetings to people of all ethnic groups across China, as well as compatriots in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, and overseas Chinese communities. The message, delivered through China Media Group and the internet, has resonated deeply with Chinese citizens and communities abroad, inspiring a renewed sense of national pride and determination.
In interviews with Xinhua News Agency, overseas Chinese, students, and expatriates expressed their enthusiasm for Xi Jinping’s address, describing it as “warm and inspiring” and a catalyst for renewed dedication to China’s continued development and its role in global affairs.
“More Confidence and Assurance in the Future”
Xi Jinping’s summary of China’s achievements over the past year – including the successful conclusion of the “14th Five-Year Plan,” significant strides in Chinese-style modernization, and a year of substantial gains – filled overseas Chinese with a sense of pride.
“President Xi Jinping’s speech was forward-looking and inspiring,” said Zhang Xiaochun, a Chinese businessman in Brazil and chairman of the Brazil China Peace Unification Promotion Association. “China’s achievements over the past year were not easily won, demonstrating its significant advantages in national governance and giving us more confidence and assurance in the future.”
邓柱廷 (Deng Zhuting), chairman of the London Chinatown Business Association in the United Kingdom, echoed this sentiment, noting China’s economic resilience in 2025 despite “complex and severe situations.” He stated that China’s accomplishments filled overseas Chinese with pride.
常建兵 (Chang Jianbing), responsible for the container hub project in Aktau Port, Kazakhstan, shared that hearing Xi Jinping’s speech while working on the project underscored the tangible benefits of China’s development extending to neighboring countries, including Kazakhstan.
林文猛 (Lin Wenmeng), president of the Myanmar Chinese Chamber of Commerce, recalled attending the 80th anniversary commemoration of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, stating that the speech evoked strong emotions and reinforced the deep connection between overseas Chinese and their homeland. He emphasized that the prosperity of China is a shared aspiration of the diaspora.
焦圣安 (Jiao Shengan), president of the New York China Peace Unification Promotion Association, highlighted Xi Jinping’s mention of establishing the Taiwan Light Restoration Memorial Day. He reiterated the association’s belief that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China and expressed hope for peaceful reunification, recalling a recent event in New York where hundreds, including Taiwanese compatriots, sang the “Taiwan Restoration Memorial Song.”
“Injecting Stability and Certainty into Global Development”
段伟 (Duan Wei), project leader for the Serbian section of the China Railway International Hungary-Serbia Railway, reflected on the challenges overcome during nearly a decade of construction. He emphasized the importance of “taking one step at a time” to successfully implement Chinese-developed control systems, rails, and switches in Europe.
赵珂 (Zhao Ke), leader of the fourth group of Chinese agricultural experts assisting Zimbabwe, described how “taking one step at a time” translates into practical field guidance, technical training, and infrastructure projects aimed at benefiting Zimbabwean farmers.
林楚钦 (Lin Chuchin), president of the Thai Chinese Chamber of Commerce, noted that Xi Jinping’s emphasis on “seeking progress while maintaining stability” and promoting high-quality development not only provides direction for China’s growth but also injects stability and certainty into global development. He pointed to Chinese electric vehicle companies investing in Thailand as an example of contributing to local employment, industrial upgrading, and green transformation.
王锦程 (Wang Jincheng), Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Lisbon in Portugal, stated that China’s growing strength enhances the influence and value of Chinese traditional culture, fostering a stronger sense of cohesion within Chinese society and increasing recognition among people overseas. He pledged to continue promoting cultural exchange as a bridge between civilizations.
刘晓光 (Liu Xiaoguang), chairman of the Cambodia-China Journalists Association, shared his impressions from a recent trip to Guizhou province, noting the remarkable transformation of what was once a poverty-stricken region. He praised the Chinese Communist Party’s commitment to serving the people and achieving tangible results.
周立群 (Zhou Liqun), chairman of the Russian China General Chamber of Commerce and vice president of the China-Russia Friendship Association, emphasized the importance of aligning the development of Chinese enterprises abroad with the well-being of local communities.

黄钦 (Huang Qin), leader of the 16th Chinese medical team dispatched to Lebanon, expressed gratitude for Xi Jinping’s message, which provided warmth and encouragement to the team.
