Chinese National Granted Asylum in US After Exposing Uyghur Abuses

A US immigration judge has granted asylum to a Chinese national, Guan Heng, who demonstrated a “well founded fear” of‍ persecution if returned to China. Heng had publicly exposed alleged human rights abuses against Uyghurs, according to the judge’s ruling.

Heng initially entered⁣ the ⁢US illegally in 2021 and was⁢ detained during an immigration enforcement operation in August of last year. ⁤The operation was part of a broader deportation campaign initiated during the Trump administration.
