XREAL’s Project Aura Android XR Glasses Require Wired ‘Puck’ for Power
XREAL’s upcoming “Project Aura,” an Android XR glasses set, will require a wired connection to a “puck-like” device for power. The proclamation, which followed Google I/O last month, revealed new details about the display and power requirements for the device.
Project Aura represents XREAL’s entry into the Android XR arena. Unlike glasses designed for all-day use, these function more like a compact VR/XR headset, similar in concept to Meta Quest or Samsung’s “Project Moohan.”
XREAL is touting hardware advancements for this release. The company’s website and presentations at the Augmented World Expo (AWE) highlighted key features.
The “Project Aura” glasses will feature a 70-degree field-of-view,the largest screen XREAL has produced. A new flat prism lens allows for this wider view while maintaining a smaller lens size. The glasses incorporate an X1S chipset alongside a Snapdragon chip, a modified version of the chipset found in XREAL One and XREAL one Pro.
Though, the processing power will not be housed within the glasses themselves. XREAL confirmed at AWE that “Project Aura” needs a tethered “puck-like” device to contain the Android XR components. A wire built into the glasses connects to this pocket-sized device, detaching for easy storage.while other XREAL products use similar connections, they typically link to different device types.
