Yamal Shines, Fuels Ballon d’Or Talk in Spain’s Win

Lamine Yamal, the 17-year-old Barcelona forward, delivered a performance worthy of Ballon d’Or consideration, according to spain coach Luis de la Fuente, in a 5-4 UEFA nations League semifinal victory against France on Thursday. The thrilling match in Stuttgart saw Spain build a commanding lead before withstanding a late French comeback.
Yamal scored two goals in the contest. Spain now advances to Sunday’s final against Portugal.
De la Fuente told RTVE that yamal made a statement and showed he should win the Ballon d’Or. He added that Yamal is the best player in the world and deserves the award.
Before the game, Yamal said he welcomed the Ballon d’or narrative surrounding the match, adding that the award should go to the best player across the entire year.
Yamal contributed to Nico Williams’ opening goal and later scored twice himself, sandwiching a goal from Pedri, as Spain surged to a 5-1 advantage. Mikel Merino also scored for Spain.France responded with goals from Kylian Mbappé, Rayan Cherki, Randal Kolo Muani and an own goal from Dani Vivian.

Yamal told RTVE that he always tries to give his all. He added that is what motivates him and what gets him up in the morning and that it’s always best to speak on the pitch. He said Dembélé is a great player, but he is happy that Spain is in the final.
Athletic Club winger Williams voiced his support for Yamal to win the Ballon d’or.Rafael Louzán,president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF),said Yamal’s performance proved he deserves the award.
Louzán said it’s not just the two goals, it’s everything he dose. He added that everything Yamal does surprises you again and again and that he still has a long way to go, and he hopes they give him the prize he deserves, the Ballon d’Or.
Despite Spain’s comfortable lead, France mounted a late comeback, scoring three goals to narrow the deficit. However, Spain held on for the victory.
Yamal acknowledged France’s quality, stating that they are a great side with world class players, so it’s normal that they force you to suffer in moments. He added that they have players that keep going and push you until the end, but Spain is really happy to win the game.

Spain will now face Portugal in the final in Munich. France will play Germany in the third-place playoff.
