BYD’s ultra-luxury brand, Yangwang, will debut a four-seat version of its flagship U8L SUV at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show on April 24, 2026. The announcement was made on April 8, 2026, by Hu Xiaoqing, the general manager of Yangwang’s sales division, via Weibo.
The new four-seat variant is positioned as the highest-end model within the Yangwang lineup. According to Hu Xiaoqing, the vehicle will feature significant upgrades to the cabin experience, expanded personalization options, and exclusive ownership benefits.
Pricing and Market Positioning
While official pricing for the four-seat version has not yet been disclosed, the company has indicated a distinct price range difference compared to the existing six-seat U8L. Hu Xiaoqing hinted that the four-seat model will carry a higher price tag than the six-seat version.
For context, the 2026 Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition, which is positioned as a large luxury SUV, starts at 1.3 million yuan (approximately $190,350 or 179,400 USD). The four-seat variant is expected to sit above this price level to reflect its flagship positioning in the ultra-high-end automotive market.
Technical Specifications and Performance
The 2026 U8L lineup, including the upcoming four-seat version, utilizes BYD’s second-generation (Short) Blade battery and updated ultra-fast flash charging technology. This system allows the vehicle to charge to 70% in 5 minutes and reach 97% in approximately 9 minutes under standard conditions.

In extreme environments, specifically temperatures as low as −30°C, the charging time increases by approximately three minutes.
The U8L’s range and efficiency metrics are as follows:
- CLTC-rated pure electric range: 230 kilometers
- Combined driving range: 1,205 kilometers
These specifications place the model in the upper range of extended-range luxury SUVs in China, focusing on long-distance usability and charging speed.
Comparison with Existing Models
The current U8L is a six-seat model featuring a 2+2+2 seating layout. Its physical dimensions include a length of up to 5,400 mm and a wheelbase of 3,250 mm.
The transition to a four-seat configuration is intended to further consolidate Yangwang’s position in the luxury segment, with reports indicating the model is designed to rival high-end competitors such as the Maybach GLS 600.
The debut of this variant follows the launch of Yangwang’s 2026 models in China in March 2026, which included the updated U8L Dingshi Edition.
