Yankees’ Boone,LeMahieu Ejected in Loss to Red Sox
boston—New York Yankees manager aaron Boone and second baseman DJ lemahieu were both ejected from Friday’s game against the Boston red Sox after arguing a foul ball call in the 10th inning. The Yankees lost 2-1.
The incident occurred when LeMahieu hit a drive down the right-field line with two outs against Red Sox reliever garrett Whitlock. First base umpire Jeremie Rehak called the ball foul, prompting a heated reaction from LeMahieu. Boone challenged the call, but after review, it was upheld.
An incensed Boone then argued with the umpires, resulting in his ejection by home plate umpire john Tumpane.
“I want the courage to overturn the call,” Boone told reporters afterward, arguing that a quarter of the ball was on the line.
Moments later, LeMahieu grounded out to end the inning. As he passed Rehak, he voiced his disagreement and was also ejected—the first time in his 15-year career.
According to NJ Advance Media, LeMahieu said he told Rehak, “That was a brutal call,” before the ejection. “Of all the things I’ve said to umpires, I was pretty surprised,” LeMahieu added.
The Red Sox then walked off the Yankees in the bottom of the 10th to secure the win.
The Yankees (42-26) continue the three-game series against the Red Sox (35-36) at 7:15 p.m. ET.
