NEW YORK — Jazz Chisholm jr. had a memorable Sunday morning, scoring the go-ahead run for the New York Yankees in a 4-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, all while losing both of his cleats in the process. The unusual play drew comparisons to the legendary “Shoeless” Joe Jackson.
Chisholm’s shoes came off as he slid into home in the eighth inning. He had doubled, driving in two runs to put the Yankees ahead. As he slid, both size 10 Jordan 1 cleats came loose.
“I was so sweaty.my socks were wet. Everything had just slipped straight out,” Chisholm said after the game.
The incident evoked memories of Shoeless Joe Jackson, who supposedly earned his nickname in 1908 after playing a game without shoes due to blisters. Jackson went on to a successful career but was later banned from baseball.
