Teh New york Yankees ⁤have made a notable move to strengthen their bullpen, acquiring All-Star closer David Bednar from the pittsburgh Pirates. The ⁢deal, confirmed by multiple reports, ⁢addresses‍ a key area of need for the yankees as they push for a postseason berth.

bednar’s ‍Impact‍ on the ⁢Yankees’ Relief⁢ Corps

Bednar, who has one more year of arbitration eligibility before becoming⁣ a free agent after the 2026 season, brings a proven ‍track record of success to the Bronx. Originally a 35th-round pick by the⁢ Padres in‍ 2016, Bednar ⁢has developed into one of baseball’s premier relief pitchers. ‍his arsenal features ⁤a fastball that touches the ⁤upper 90s,complemented by a sharp curveball and a deceptive splitter.

The 30-year-old right-hander earned All-Star selections with the Pirates in both 2022 and 2023, notching a career-high 39 saves in the latter season. After a challenging start to the 2025 campaign ⁤that led to an April option to Triple-A, Bednar has since ‍rediscovered his form. He is expected to⁢ provide a much-needed boost to a Yankees bullpen that has struggled recently, posting a 6.29‍ ERA in July, the second-worst mark in ‍Major League Baseball. Bednar will join forces with devin Williams and Luke ⁣Weaver to solidify the back end of the Yankees’ relief efforts.

Prospect Package Sent‍ to Pittsburgh

In⁤ exchange ⁣for Bednar, the Pirates will receive a trio of prospects, according to reports. The package includes catcher Rafael Flores and outfielder Edgleen Perez, who were ranked as New York’s No. 8 ⁤and No. 14 prospects, respectively.

Flores, a 24-year-old catcher,‍ earned a promotion to triple-A earlier this month after a strong performance at Double-A, where‍ he slashed .287/.346/.496 with 15 home runs in 87 games. Perez, simultaneously occurring, has spent the 2025 season at Low-A Tampa, batting .604 OPS through 83 ⁤games.

The final piece of the return is 21-year-old ‍outfield prospect Brian sanchez. The left-handed⁢ hitting Sanchez ⁣is currently batting .281 with four home runs and 24 stolen bases at Low-A Tampa.
