Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has offered to meet with members of the Jewish community in the United Kingdom following a significant public outcry over his booking as the headliner for the Wireless Festival in London.

The rapper is scheduled to headline all three days of the event, which takes place from July 10 to July 12, 2026, at Finsbury Park. The announcement of his appearance on March 30, 2026, triggered immediate condemnation from political figures, Jewish organizations, and corporate sponsors.

On April 7, 2026, Festival Republic—a subsidiary of Live Nation—released a statement on behalf of the artist titled To Those I’ve Hurt. In the statement, Ye expressed a desire to use his music to bring unity, peace, and love to London and requested the opportunity to listen to members of the UK’s Jewish community in person.

I’ve been following the conversation around Wireless and want to address it directly. My only goal is to come to London and present a show of change, bringing unity, peace, and love through my music. I would be grateful for the opportunity to meet with members of the Jewish community in the UK in person, to listen. I know words aren’t enough – I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here.

Political and Corporate Backlash

The controversy centers on Ye’s history of antisemitic remarks and the May 2025 release of a song titled Heil Hitler. He has also previously advertised a swastika T-shirt on his website and voiced admiration for Adolf Hitler.

Political and Corporate Backlash

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer described the booking as deeply concerning, stating that antisemitism in any form is abhorrent. Health Secretary Wes Streeting also stated that the rapper should not be headlining the festival.

The backlash has led to significant financial and diplomatic pressure:

  • Several major sponsors, including Pepsi, PayPal, and Diageo (the company behind Johnnie Walker and Captain Morgan), withdrew their support for the event.
  • The Mayor of London stated that Ye’s past comments do not reflect the values of the city.
  • The Jewish Leadership Council in London criticized the booking.
  • Reports indicate that Ye’s entry visa into the UK has not yet been approved and remains under review by government ministers.

The rapper’s travel history has been impacted by similar controversies; he was previously denied entry into Australia following the release of the song referencing Hitler.

Festival Defense and Artist Context

Despite the pressure, Melvin Benn, the managing director of Festival Republic, has defended the decision to book Ye. Benn stated that the artist is intended to perform and that the festival is not providing a platform for him to express political opinions, but rather to perform songs currently available on streaming platforms, and radio.

Benn called for forgiveness and second chances in a divisive world, urging critics to reflect on their reactions.

In response to the current offer to meet, Phil Rosenberg, the President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, stated that the organization was willing to meet with Ye, but only on the condition that he agrees not to perform at the Wireless Festival.

This represents not the first time Ye has addressed his behavior. In January 2026, he took out a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal apologizing for his antisemitic actions and attributing them to his diagnosis of bipolar-1 disorder.

Ye has not performed in the UK since his 2015 headline appearance at Glastonbury. Recently, he released his 12th solo studio album, BULLY, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and completed his first US performances in five years at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
