The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued a yellow code warning for strong winds across 16 regions of Bulgaria on Sunday, April 26, 2026, with wind gusts expected to reach up to 90 km/h.

The warning applies to the regions of Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kardzhali, Lovech, Montana, Sofia City, Sofia Region, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen and Yambol, according to the official NIMH announcement published on its website.

In the northwestern regions of Vidin and Montana, forecasters also anticipate snow cover of up to 10 cm and icy road conditions, adding to the hazardous weather outlook for those areas.

Daytime temperatures are expected to vary significantly across the country, ranging from 2°C in the far northwestern areas to 17–18°C in eastern Bulgaria, while temperatures in Sofia are forecast to be around 14°C.

In mountainous regions, strong to gale-force southwesterly winds are forecast, with maximum temperatures at an altitude of 1,200 metres expected to be around 10°C and approximately 2°C at 2,000 metres above sea level.

The yellow code warning advises the public to remain cautious of airborne objects and prepare for possible disruptions to normal outdoor activities, though structural damage is not expected under this level of alert.

This weather alert follows a pattern of volatile spring conditions in Bulgaria, with recent days seeing fluctuating temperatures and precipitation patterns across different regions of the country.
