Yemen Slams Israeli PM’s ‘Provocative’ Remarks on Philadelphia Axis, Stands in Solidarity with Egypt
Yemen Condemns Israeli Prime Minister’s Statements on Philadelphia Axis
Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the Israeli Prime Minister’s statements about the Philadelphia Axis, including accusations aimed at justifying ongoing Israeli violations of international law and norms.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Yemen has confirmed its full support and solidarity with the Arab Republic of Egypt regarding this provocative statement and its clear rejection of the Israeli military presence at the Philadelphia Axis and the Rafah Crossing.
The ministry stressed its full support to Egyptian efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and ending the suffering of the Palestinian people.
The ministry called on the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to take up their responsibilities to achieve the Palestinian people’s aspirations for peace and a decent life, including the establishment of their independent state with East Jerusalem as their capital.
Arab Countries Unite in Solidarity with Egypt
Arab countries declared their solidarity with Cairo against the statement of the occupying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the Philadelphia border axis with Egypt.
In his press conference on Monday, Netanyahu said that achieving the goals of the Gaza war “goes through the Philadelphia axis”, stressing that ”Tel Aviv” will not withdraw from it.
He added: “The moment we left the Philadelphia Corridor on the Gaza Strip and the border with Egypt, there was no stopping the massive infiltration of weapons, munitions, machines needed to make missiles and machines needed to dig tunnels.”
He added: “All of this is sponsored by Iran, directed and financed by Iran. Gaza became a great threat to the State of Israel because there was no barrier there (in the Philadelphia Corridor).”
Egypt Rejects Netanyahu’s Statements
In response, Egypt rejected Netanyahu’s statements in a statement from its foreign ministry, calling them “attempts to prevent reaching a cease-fire and prisoner exchange agreement in the Gaza Strip.”
For months, Egypt, Qatar and the United States have been leading indirect talks between the occupation and the Palestinian resistance, but they have not resulted in an agreement as Israel rejects the resistance’s demands to end the war, withdrawing its forces. Return the Gaza Strip, and displaced Palestinians north of the Strip.
Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
With American support, the occupation has been waging a war in Gaza since October 7, 2023, which has left more than 135,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid widespread destruction and severe famine.
