Sean Lennon Reveals New Insights into John adn YokoS Enduring Love
New York, NY – Sean Lennon, son of music icons John Lennon and Yoko Ono, recently offered intimate glimpses into his parents’ complex relationship while discussing the upcoming Mind Games box set.In a candid interview with the BBC, Lennon shared that despite John’s well-documented “Lost Weekend” separation from Yoko, their bond remained unbroken.
“The truth is, even when they were apart, they were always talking, so I don’t think they ever really broke up,” Sean revealed. “All his stuff was still in the apartment with my mum,it’s not like they had a real separation. And on top of it, all my dad was thinking about was her.”
Sean pointed to the Mind Games album cover as a visual testament to his father’s unwavering devotion. “you look at the album cover, it’s a collage of my mum literally the size of a mountain, and he’s this little tiny thing sort of fading into the background,” he explained. “And I think it’s clear what his view of my mum was in his life. She was monumental, obviously. And the whole album is about her.”
Yoko Ono, who has dedicated her life to preserving John Lennon’s legacy since his tragic murder in 1980, has rarely been seen in public in recent years due to health challenges. At 91, Sean has taken on a larger role in overseeing the John Lennon estate, ensuring his father’s music and message continue to resonate with new generations.
In a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, sean expressed his commitment to keeping his father’s legacy alive. “we’re living in an age where enough time has passed,” he said. “No one bothers to make sure that the younger generations have an possibility to be exposed to it. I just always assumed the Beatles and John Lennon — no one is going to forget those stories. I don’t think my dad would have been satisfied with just being somebody that you have to discover through your own research.”
Beyond his work with his father’s estate,Sean Lennon continues to forge his own path in music. He recently toured with Colonel Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog, performing Pink Floyd’s Animals alongside Harry Waters, son of Roger Waters. Earlier this year, Sean released his latest solo album, Asterisms.
