Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark emphasized the importance of collaboration and doing whatS right for college football as a whole.
Under the 5+11 format, the champions of the four Power Four conferences (SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12) and the highest-ranked champion from the Group of Five conferences would recieve automatic bids. The remaining 11 spots would be at-large selections by the College Football Playoff committee.
