YouTube’s Policy Change: A Blow to Movie Lovers

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve always been drawn to collecting famous films on YouTube. I believed that by purchasing them, I could enjoy them for a lifetime, without worrying about them disappearing from various OTT platforms.

My collection boasts an impressive array of movies, including the Marvel series, Arrival, Inception, the Nolan Batman trilogy, the Bourne trilogy, the Matrix trilogy, the Harry Potter series, the Lord of the Rings series, and the Hobbit series. I’ve always made it a point to buy movies that I think are worth watching again and again.

However, with the rise of OTT platforms like Netflix, Disney, and others, I found myself neglecting my YouTube movie collection. My son, on the other hand, has enjoyed watching some of the movies I purchased on his iPad.

Recently, I decided to revisit my collection and watch Dune 2 Part 2 for the first time in a while. But to my surprise, the picture quality was a mere 480p. I thought it was a bug, but no matter how many times I played it, the quality remained the same.

Further research revealed that YouTube’s policy on PC has changed, capping video quality at 480p. Apparently, this change was made to combat piracy and video distribution. While I understand the reasoning, I’m disappointed by the decision.

As someone who prefers watching videos on their computer with a headset, I find this change to be particularly frustrating. I value the freedom of control that comes with watching on my computer, and this change has forced me to consider watching movies on my TV instead.

This experience has left me feeling disappointed and frustrated. I hope that YouTube will reconsider their policy and find a better solution to combat piracy without compromising the viewing experience for loyal customers like myself.
