Letterkenny’s Daithí Ó hAragáin: From Gaelscoil to Channel 4’s “Trespasses“
Letterkenny, Ireland – In a story that underscores the vibrant talent blossoming in our community, eleven-year-old Daithí Ó hAragáin is set to captivate audiences in Channel 4’s upcoming drama series, Trespasses. The young actor,a proud son of Paul Ó hAragáin and Una Ni Bhriain,is quickly establishing himself as a rising star,proving that talent knows no age.
Trespasses, based on Louise kennedy’s acclaimed debut novel, plunges viewers into the heart of Northern Ireland in 1975, a time of intense conflict and forbidden love. Daithí will share the screen with a stellar cast, including the acclaimed Lola Petticrew, Gillian Anderson (Scoop, Sex Education), and Tom Cullen (The Gold, Weekend).
This isn’t Daithí’s first foray into the world of high-profile drama. Last year, he shone alongside Lola Petticrew in the hugely popular Disney+ drama Say Nothing, produced by FX. This early success speaks volumes about his dedication and natural ability.
In Trespasses, Daithí takes on the role of Davy McGeown, a young boy in Cushla’s class.As described by the Encore Performing Arts Academy,Davy’s family becomes entangled in the escalating tensions of the Troubles.Cushla, a Catholic schoolteacher, forms a protective bond with Davy, a vulnerable student from a mixed-religion family facing bullying and persecution. This relationship becomes increasingly complex and risky when Davy’s father is attacked,drawing Cushla into the family’s troubles with severe consequences.
Daithí hones his skills at the Encore Performance Arts Academy, a testament to the importance of local arts education in nurturing young talent. He is proudly represented by Thompson & Borland, with Rebecca Thompson and Laura borland guiding his burgeoning career.The series promises a gripping narrative, following Cushla, a spirited young woman whose life is stifled by routine. Her world is turned upside down when she meets Michael, an older, married Protestant man who defends IRA suspects and is connected to a group of intriguing bohemians. Despite knowing the potential for trouble, Cushla and Michael are irresistibly drawn to each other.
Filming for Trespasses, a four-part series, wrapped in belfast in December. While an official release date is yet to be confirmed, excitement is already building for what promises to be a powerful and moving portrayal of love and conflict in a turbulent era.
