On the 25th of this month, Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Thi Thu Xuan performed well in the U15 age group women’s singles competition of the 2024 Asian U17 and U15 Youth Badminton Championships and won the silver medal (see picture).
The 2024 Asian U17 and U15 Youth Badminton Championships was held in Chengdu, China from August 20 to 26. The participating athletes competed in the following events: women’s singles, men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, divided into two age groups, U17 and U15. In the U15 age group women’s singles final held on the morning of August 25, Vietnamese player Nguyen Thi Thuy Xuan (second seed) faced young Indian badminton player (first seed) Tanvi Patri for the women’s singles championship. In the end, Vietnamese player Nguyen Thi Thuy Xuan lost 2-0 (20-22, 11-21) and won the silver medal. Earlier, on the afternoon of August 24, Vietnamese player Nguyen Thi Thuy Xuan defeated the host Chinese player 2-1 in the women’s singles semi-finals. Mr. Koh Chung Kien, head of badminton at the Sports Bureau of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, said that this is the first time that Vietnamese badminton players have entered the finals of the Asian Championships.
