YouTuber’s High-Speed Chase Ends in Tragedy: Fatal Consequences of a Drunken Driving Sting Gone Wrong
[아이뉴스24 김다운 기자] A man in his 30s who was running away from a YouTuber who was filming a drunk driving chase crashed into a large trailer and died, and the YouTuber was investigated by the police.
On the 27th, the Gwangju Police Agency booked without detention YouTuber A, who is active as a so-called ‘drunken driving hunter.’
Mr. A is suspected of providing a direct or indirect cause in connection with a fatal traffic accident that occurred on a road in Gwangju on the 22nd.
At approximately 3:50 a.m. on the 22nd, an accident occurred on a road in Sanwol-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, where an SUV driven by Mr. B, a man in his 30s, collided with a parked trailer vehicle.
As a result of this accident, a fire broke out and Mr. B’s vehicle was completely destroyed. Mr. B was taken to the hospital, but eventually died.
It is reported that Mr. B was running away from Mr. A, a YouTuber who chases and films people suspected of drunk driving before the accident.
At that time, Mr. A saw Mr. B’s vehicle and reported it to the police, suspecting him of drunk driving, and then chased after Mr. B and broadcast the incident live online.
It is reported that two vehicles driven by Mr. A’s subscribers also followed Mr. B.
The police plan to call Mr. A in the near future and investigate the circumstances and process of tracking Mr. B and determine whether he can be held legally responsible.
Mr. A was recently sent to the prosecution on charges of harassing an innocent driver (common dangerous acts under the Road Traffic Act, etc.).
He is accused of stopping a car he was driving in collaboration with a number of subscribers on a road in Buk-gu, Gwangju at the end of December last year, saying he was suspected of drunk driving.
After checking with the police, it was confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was not driving under the influence.
Last January, Mr. A caused controversy by providing an excuse for an assault incident between a subscriber and a driver while broadcasting on YouTube the scene of a drunk driving incident in an entertainment district in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju.
