Kanazawa, Japan - A Japanese court has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, concerning a memorial dedicated to Yun bong-gil, a Korean independence activist.

The Woljin-hoe Japan branch reported that the Kanazawa District Court dismissed the lawsuit seeking to cancel the lease agreement for the memorial site. The legal challenge, initiated in January by a Japanese right-wing association, aimed to revoke the permanent lease, arguing that honoring Yun Bong-gil, whom they labeled a Korean terrorist,
was inappropriate.
The organization asserted that he is a terrorist for conscientious japanese, and in law and social notion, Yoon Bong-gil is a criminal.
However, the court swiftly rejected the claim, deeming the matter unsuitable for trial.
Yun Bong-gil carried out a bombing on April 29, 1932, during the Japanese colonial period, at Hongkou Park in Shanghai, China. He was apprehended and subsequently executed by firing squad on December 19, 1932, at the Mitsuko jisan Army Engineering Workshop in Kanazawa. His remains were initially concealed, but were recovered in March 1946 by a group of over 200 Korean residents in Japan. Since 1992, the Woljinhoe’s Japanese branch, in collaboration with Kanazawa City, has maintained the memorial site. It serves as a place of remembrance for both Korean and Japanese citizens.
In 2006, right-wing groups filed a separate claim against Kanazawa City for allowing the use of municipal land for the memorial.

Recent activity by far-right groups in Kanazawa has caused disturbances related to the Yun Bong-gil memorial. The controversy has escalated with the promotion of a Yun Bong-gil Memorial Guide
near Kanazawa Station by some Korean-Japanese individuals. Right-wing groups have responded by staging protests with vehicles equipped with loudspeakers, asserting that the memorial of the bombing terrorist Yoon Bong-gil can never be allowed here.
On March 2, an individual associated with a right-wing group reportedly drove a vehicle toward the regional headquarters of the Korean People’s Group (Mindan) in Ishikawa Prefecture, where Kanazawa is located.
