Yungblud Opens Up on “Roller Coaster of Emotions” During Documentary Filming

Singer Yungblud has described the experience of filming a documentary that offers viewers an intimate glimpse into one of his recording sessions as a ”roller coaster of emotions.” The candid admission comes as anticipation builds for yungblud. Are You Ready, Boy?, a film directed by Bafta-winning filmmaker Paul Dugdale.
A Deep Dive into the Creative process
The documentary follows the Doncaster-born musician, whose real name is Dominic harrison, as he decamps too the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin. There, he records live performances of tracks from his highly anticipated fourth studio album, Idols.
“The film is going to be insane,” Yungblud told the PA news agency. “It’s fully out of control, I don’t know how the hell they’re going to edit it but there was a roller coaster of emotions so it was pretty raw.”
Idols: A Departure and a Declaration
Released in June 2025, Idols marks a notable moment in Yungblud’s career. He revealed that the album’s title is not merely an homage to his musical heroes, but rather a statement of his evolving artistic identity.
“I called the album Idols because it’s actually the first time that I’ve turned away from them,” he explained. “I’ve always looked to other people for an answer. I’ve always looked to the picture on the wall.”
He elaborated on this theme, stating, “I wrote a record about looking at picture on a wall, wanting to become a picture on the wall, becoming a picture on the wall, and realising it didn’t f mean anything.”
Challenging Himself and Embracing Magic
Yungblud emphasized his commitment to personal growth and pushing his artistic boundaries. “I think I’ve spent a long time paying homage to my heroes, which I always will do, but it’s time for me to challenge myself, to try and f reach as high as I can, try my best and push my musicians, and push my band, and push my team.”
He expressed a profound sense of personal fulfillment with this latest body of work. “I can honestly say, since probably (debut studio album) 21st Century Liability, I wrote this album for myself, and I f believe in magic, man, it made me believe in magic again. It’s like, it’s just completely pure, and it’s just been amazing,” he shared.
Hansa Studios: A Historic creative Hub
The choice of Hansa Studios in Berlin is steeped in musical history. Yungblud recorded in the very same space where iconic artists like David Bowie laid down tracks for his seminal album heroes, and U2 recorded their acclaimed Achtung Baby.
Reflecting on the significance of the location, Yungblud noted the city’s complex past. “Berlin has been through so much, been the most liberal place in Europe, but then also experienced the most pain,” he said.
