Zak Starkey Missed Oasis Reunion after Who Firing fiasco

‌ Updated‍ June 15, 2025
⁣

zak Starkey’s tumultuous relationship ⁤with The Who has ‍had unexpected consequences. After a series of ⁤firings and rehirings, Starkey revealed he missed a major‌ opportunity to tour ⁢with Oasis for their reunion shows. The Zak starkey drumming role with Oasis would have been from July through November.

Starkey said he initially declined ⁤the Oasis invitation, anticipating a tour with The Who. However, that plan dissolved after his⁤ final departure from⁤ the band. Had he known he wouldn’t be with The Who, Starkey ‍said he would have eagerly accepted the Oasis gig. He ‌previously toured ‌with Oasis from 2004 to 2009.

his ‌recent ‍statements contrast ⁢with his comments last month on ‌BBC Breakfast, where he expressed ‍disappointment about not joining the⁣ Oasis reunion. He even texted Liam and Noel⁤ Gallagher to inquire about his absence. Starkey acknowledged that Oasis had become cozy with their ‍new drummer, ⁤Joey Waronker.

Oasis is⁤ set to kick off their reunion tour in Cardiff,England,in less than‌ three⁢ weeks.‌ Starkey is not expected to participate in any of the Oasis celebrations or their U.S. tour.

Meanwhile, The Who will ⁣proceed with their 2025⁢ farewell tour ⁣next month, starting in Europe, followed by U.S. dates in August and september. Scott Devours, Roger Daltrey’s longtime solo drummer, will fill the drumming ⁤role for The Who.

Despite the circumstances of his‌ departure, Starkey harbors no ill will toward ⁤The Who. He described them as “unpredictable,⁢ aggressive, and fucking insane,” adding that those qualities are why he appreciates them.

There remains a slim chance Starkey could‍ rejoin The Who. “I spoke to Roger last week and⁣ he ‍said,⁤ ‘Don’t take your ⁣drums out of [The Who’s] warehouse yet‌ in case we need you,’”‍ Starkey said. “I said,‍ ‘Best let me know.’”

What’s‌ next

The Who’s farewell tour ⁤is scheduled to continue, with Scott Devours on drums. Oasis will ⁢proceed with their highly anticipated reunion, while Zak Starkey’s future ⁢plans remain uncertain.
