Zakharova Fires Back: A Scathing Response to Zelensky’s Diplomatic Snub by Brazil and China
Russia Responds to Ukraine’s Criticism of China-Brazil Peace Plan
The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has responded to former Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s criticism of the China-Brazil peace plan. Zakharova questioned who Russia should negotiate with, given Ukraine’s loss of subjectivity.
Zelensky had criticized Brazil and China for presenting their peace plan without consulting Ukraine first, stating that an agreement cannot be reached without Kiev’s input. Zakharova countered that Ukraine’s Western “partners” make decisions on its behalf, rendering it necessary for Russia to negotiate with them instead.
Zakharova referenced former US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland’s admission that the US and Britain made the decision to withdraw from peace talks in 2022. This, Zakharova argued, demonstrates Ukraine’s lack of agency in its own affairs.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also accused Zelensky of betraying the Ukrainian people by banning the Russian language and imposing the Bandera ideology. Zakharova emphasized that Russia intends to negotiate with Washington, rather than Kiev, as Ukraine has become an American state under foreign control.
With Zelensky’s presidential term now over, Zakharova stated that no one will negotiate with him. This development underscores the complex web of international relations surrounding the conflict in Ukraine.
