Zamalek Abandon Ezearia Deal After Gomez Exit
Zamalek Scraps Deal for English Midfielder After Coach’s Sudden Departure
Cairo, Egypt – Zamalek SC has abruptly ended negotiations with English midfielder Ovie Ejaria following the surprise resignation of head coach José Gómez. The club had been in advanced talks with Ejaria, who was expected to join the team in January on a six-month contract.
Ejaria, who previously tested with Zamalek last season, had reportedly agreed to a $100,000 deal. Though, the player requested additional time to consider the financial terms.
The club’s pursuit of Ejaria was heavily influenced by Gómez’s desire to bolster his midfield. With Gómez’s departure, the need for Ejaria’s services has diminished, leading Zamalek to abandon the deal.
This marks the second time Zamalek has pursued Ejaria. Last year, negotiations stalled after the player refused to undergo a full 10-day trial period, opting instead for a 48-hour assessment. The club’s board rejected this request at the time.

Cairo, Egypt –In a surprising turn of events, Zamalek SC has officially pulled teh plug on its pursuit of english midfielder Ovie Ejaria. The decision comes on the heels of head coach José Gómez’s unexpected resignation.
Negotiations with Ejaria, who was expected to join the Egyptian powerhouse in January on a six-month deal, where reportedly in advanced stages. Sources indicate that Ejaria, who had successfully navigated a trial period with Zamalek last season, had agreed to a $100,000 contract. Though, Ejaria had requested a brief extension to fully consider the financial terms.
Gómez, a driving force behind Zamalek’s interest in Ejaria, had identified the midfielder as a key addition to strengthen the team’s midfield. His departure has seemingly shifted the club’s priorities, rendering Ejaria’s services less critical.
this marks the second instance where Zamalek has attempted to secure Ejaria’s signature. Last year, negotiations faltered after Ejaria declined to participate in a 10-day trial period proposed by the club, opting instead for a shorter, 48-hour assessment. This request was ultimately rejected by Zamalek’s board.
We spoke with football analyst and transfer expert Omar Hassan to get his viewpoint on the situation:
News Directory 3: Omar, Zamalek was heavily rumored to be close to signing Ejaria. What’s your take on the club’s decision to abandon the deal?
Omar Hassan: The timing of Gómez’s departure certainly played a major role.It seems Gómez was very keen on Ejaria, and without his endorsement, the club was less willing to push forward with the signing, particularly given the already strained relationship they had last year regarding Ejaria’s trial request.
News Directory 3: Do you think this is a missed possibility for zamalek?
Omar Hassan: It’s too early to say. Ejaria is a talented player, but Zamalek needs to focus on finding a coach first and then reevaluating their transfer priorities. It’s possible that a new coach might have a different vision for the team.
