Flyers Acquire Trevor Zegras from Ducks in trade
Updated June 24, 2025
The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired forward trevor Zegras from the anaheim ducks in exchange for Ryan Poehling and two draft picks, the teams announced Monday. The Ducks will receive Philadelphia’s 45th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in 2026.
Zegras, once a rising star for the Ducks, saw his production dip in recent seasons due to injuries. The Flyers are hoping a change of scenery will help the 23-year-old regain his offensive form.He is known for his highlight-reel plays and creativity.
“That’ll be more a question for Rick Tocchet. He has to decide where (Zegras) fits best,” Flyers GM Daniel Briere said, regarding Zegras’s potential position.”We hope he can help in the centre position because that’s an area we could improve, but at the same time, if Rick decides he’s better suited on the wing and there’s other guys who play better in the middle, then he’s going to decide.”
Anaheim GM Pat Verbeek indicated the trade was about roster balance. Poehling is a capable penalty killer, something the Ducks needed. “I think this is where you start imagining lines and how you want certain players to complement each other,” Verbeek said. “We started looking at that scenario, and ultimately, we made the decision to move Trevor because of that.”
Poehling, 25, provides the Ducks with a bottom-six forward who can contribute offensively and play on the penalty kill. He posted 12 goals and 19 assists last season for the Flyers.
Scout Jason Bukala notes Zegras’s inconsistency.”He’s a polarizing player, as his best shifts create some dynamic results on the offensive end, but he can be extremely frustrating to watch when not engaged in all three zones.”
What’s next
The Flyers hope Zegras can rediscover his scoring touch and become a key contributor to their offense. The Ducks, with meaningful cap space, are expected to be active in the free agent market this summer.
