Zelensky Expresses Gratitude to Trump for Commitment to Ending Ukraine War
Kyiv, ukraine - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his “deep gratitude” to Donald trump for his “firm determination” to end the war with Russia, following a meeting in Paris on Saturday.
The meeting,hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace,comes amid growing concerns in Ukraine about the level of military support the country will receive from the incoming US management.
“The most important thing is to work together to end this war, that is our top priority. We focused exactly on that in the Paris meeting,” Zelensky wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
He added,”I reiterate my gratitude to President Macron for organizing this meeting,as well as my profound thanks to President Trump for his firm determination to end this war justly.”
Trump has repeatedly claimed that he could end the nearly three-year conflict “in 24 hours” onc in office, raising concerns in Ukraine that the country might be pressured into making significant territorial concessions to russia in exchange for peace.
On Sunday, Trump called for an “immediate ceasefire,” writing on his platform Truth Social that zelensky was “willing to make a deal and end this madness.”
Zelensky also rejected calls to lower the conscription age. According to press reports, US officials are pushing for Ukraine to expand its draft to include 18-year-olds.
“we need to focus on equipping existing brigades and training personnel to use that equipment. We shoudl not compensate for a lack of equipment and training with young soldiers,” Zelensky stated in his Tuesday message.
