Zelensky Draws a Line in the Sand: Urges West to Defy Moscow’s Threats at Ramstein Base
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky Calls for Strong Decisions on Long-Range Strikes
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at Ramstein Air Base in Germany to participate in discussions on air defenses, arms supplies, and the need for decisive action to bring a “just peace” closer, as reported by Reuters.
Following his visit to Germany, Zelensky will travel to Italy, as announced in his message on Telegram.
Zelensky Urges Allies to Ignore Moscow’s “Red Lines”
At the Ramstein base, the Ukrainian president called on his military allies to disregard Moscow’s “red lines” and allow Kiev to use long-range weapons to strike Russian territory. “We need to have these long-range capabilities not only on the territory of Ukraine but also on the territory of Russia, so that Moscow is motivated to seek peace,” he told the meeting, attended by about 50 countries that supply weapons to Ukraine.
US Announces Additional Security Assistance to Ukraine
This is Zelensky’s first participation in the meeting of defense ministers at the US military base “Ramstein” in West Germany. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced that President Joe Biden would approve an additional $250 million in security assistance to Ukraine.
“This will increase the ability to meet the evolving requirements of Ukraine. And we will provide them at the speed of war,” said Austin.
Russia Launches Drone Attacks on Ukraine
Overnight, Russia launched a total of 44 drones against Ukraine. 27 of them were shot down, but the attacks caused fires and at least 5 people were injured. Moscow also fired two missiles in the midnight attack.
The governor of the northeastern region of Kharkiv, Oleg Sinegubov, said that a rocket attack early this morning damaged residential buildings and injured three people in the town of Lubotin.
The regional governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Sergiy Lisak, announced that the Air Force shot down 5 drones and one Russian missile over the region. In several overnight attacks in this central area, two people were injured, more than 12 houses were damaged, and electricity and gas lines were also affected.
Lviv regional authorities said debris from drones fell in the city’s industrial zone, setting four trucks on fire. A team of 32 firefighters extinguished the fire by morning. Authorities say no one was injured in the attack.
Another fire caused by falling debris was extinguished in the southern part of the city of Nikolaev, where the Air Force shot down a Russian drone, local authorities reported.
