Ioulia Navalnaia, the widow of Alexei Navalny, is partnering with Reporters Without Borders (RSF) to launch a television channel dedicated to her late husband and the cause of freedom of expression in Russia. The announcement was made Friday by RSF.
The new channel will be part of RSF’s Svoboda project, wich aims to provide reliable information to populations affected by disinformation and propaganda. The satellite bouquet, named after the Russian word for “freedom,” is accessible to millions of households within Russia and occupied territories of Ukraine.
Jim phillipoff,director of Svoboda,said the channel has been in progress for a year with Leonid Volkov,a former top aide to Alexei Navalny. The channel will utilize content from Navalny’s existing YouTube channels, including Popular Politics and Navalny Live.Phillipoff added that they are discussing ideas for exclusive content but will not be producing content themselves.
“It is all the more crucial to have option points of view since there is no media of self-reliant information in Russia,” Phillipoff said.
