Updated June 5, 2025
A Russian drone struck a residential building in Pryluky, Ukraine, overnight, killing five peopel, including a one-year-old child, according to Ukrainian President volodymyr Zelenskyy. The drone strike has intensified calls for increased international pressure on Moscow.
Among the dead were members of three generations of one family, including the wife, daughter, and one-year-old grandson of a local firefighting chief who was responding to an earlier attack, officials said.
Zelenskyy condemned the attack, accusing Russia of seeking to prolong the conflict. He urged the West to impose “maximum sanctions” and exert greater “pressure” on Russia, which has repeatedly dismissed calls for a complete ceasefire. The Russian drone strike underscores the ongoing violence despite attempts at negotiation.
“Russia is constantly trying to buy time for itself to continue killing. When it does not feel strong enough condemnation and pressure from the world, it kills again,” Mr. Zelenskyy said.
Interior Minister Igor Klymenko reported that a separate attack on Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine, injured 18 people, including four children. The Ukraine conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions since Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
