Guangzhou Women’s Tennis Open: Zhang Shuai Wins Fourth Championship

China Sports News, Guangzhou, October 27th – The 2024 Guangzhou International Women’s Tennis Open concluded on the 27th at the Guangzhou Nansha International Tennis Center. Top seeds Zhang Shuai/Sniakova defeated Peter Piter/Stora 6-4, 6-1 and won the women’s doubles championship.

This was Zhang Shuai’s second women’s doubles crown at the Guangdong Open and her fourth time winning the championship. Zhang Shuai had previously won two singles championships and one doubles championship at Guangdong Open. Her partner, Siniakova, is a Golden Slam winner in women’s doubles and also won the mixed doubles championship at the Paris Olympics.

The duo joined forces this time and won the championship, reaching the finals with only one set lost. In the final, they did not encounter much challenge and secured the victory in just 65 minutes.

After the game, Zhang Shuai said with emotion: “The Guangzhou Open is very special to me. I won my first tour championship here. This is my fourth championship trophy here, with a total of two singles and two doubles.” The Guangzhou Open is one of the oldest WTA tours in China, entering its 20th year this year.

Zhang Shuai emphasized the importance of the tournament, saying that it is precisely because of the continuous efforts of generations of players that today’s young people will surely have a better future by standing on the shoulders of their predecessors.

In the singles final, Danilovic from Serbia defeated American player Dolehead 6-3, 6-1 and won the second championship of her career.
