SHEFFIELD, England — Zhao Xintong delivered a stunning performance, defeating Ronnie O’Sullivan 17-7 in the World Snooker Championship semifinals. The victory propels Zhao into the final, where he will face either Judd Trump or Mark Williams.
Zhao, the 2021 United Kingdom Champion, showcased remarkable skill throughout the match, leaving O’Sullivan with few opportunities.The final, a best-of-35-frames contest, is scheduled for Sunday and Monday.
Prior to his semifinal triumph, Zhao secured four victories in the earlier stages of the tournament and another four in the final phase, including a decisive 10-4 win against Jak Jones in the first round.
O’Sullivan managed to hold Zhao to a 4-4 tie after the first session on Thursday. However,Zhao dominated the subsequent sessions,seizing control of the match.
Zhao won all eight frames in the first session Friday, highlighted by a break of 112 in the tenth frame and a 115 in the fourteenth. He also added six half-centuries, extending his lead from 4-4 to 12-4.
Despite O’Sullivan’s attempt to rally with two initial frames, Zhao responded emphatically, winning five of the next six frames, including a 128 break and four half-centuries, to seal the 17-7 victory.
Trump and Williams in Tight Semifinal Battle
Judd Trump and Mark Williams are locked in a tight semifinal battle, tied at 8-8 after two sessions. Trump initially led 5-3 after Thursday’s session,but Williams fought back on Friday.
Trump won the first two frames of the second session, including a 70 and a 65. Williams then claimed the next three frames, highlighted by a 105 and an 84, narrowing the score to 7-6.
Trump secured the following frame,but Williams responded with a 2-0 run to level the score. The two will resume play Saturday in two sessions at 11:00 and 20:00 to determine who will reach seventeen frames first and advance to the final against zhao Xintong.
