China Open: Zheng Qinwen Returns to Beijing to Prepare for the Tournament
Chinese women’s tennis Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen has returned to Beijing to prepare for the China Open, which is set to start on September 25. After participating in the Hubei Olympic Summary and Commendation Conference, Zheng Qinwen is now focusing on her training for the upcoming tournament.
Olympic Champion Returns to Hometown Hubei for the First Time
Zheng Qinwen recently returned to her hometown in Hubei for the first time since winning the Paris Olympics. During her 24-hour visit, she attended the Hubei Olympic Summary and Commendation Conference and participated in activities such as visiting universities and interacting with students.
Zheng Qinwen was awarded the individual merit award at the Hubei Province Olympic Athletes Commendation Conference, along with other Olympic champions from Hubei. She also received a warm welcome from her alma mater, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, where she met and interacted with about 2,000 teachers and students.
Arrive at the China Open in Advance for Training
As a seeded player of the China Open, Zheng Qinwen has a bye in the first round and will not play her first match until September 27 or 28. However, she has already arrived in Beijing to prepare for the tournament, showing her commitment to performing well in the China Open and the Chinese season.
Zheng Qinwen has invited two Chinese male players to serve as sparring partners during her training, including Zhang Yiwei, a young player from Hubei. Last year, Zheng Qinwen and Zhang Yiwei’s partnership helped her enter the finals of the “Small Year-end Tournament” in Zhuhai.
Strive to Enter the WTA Year-End Finals
Zheng Qinwen has stated that she will work hard in this year’s China season, participating in the WTA1000 China Open, WTA1000 Wuhan Open, and WTA500 Ningbo Open. Her goal is to win points and strive to enter the 2024 WTA year-end finals, which will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from November 2 to 9.
The 2024 WTA Finals will have a total prize of 15.25 million US dollars, setting a historical record. Zheng Qinwen will need to perform well in the Beijing, Wuhan, and Ningbo tournaments to increase her chances of entering the year-end finals.

Zhang Shuai and Wang Qiang have impressive records in the China Open, with Zhang Shuai defeating the then-world No. 1 Safina in 2009 and Wang Qiang reaching the semifinals in 2018. The China Open women’s singles qualifying will be held on September 23 and 24, and fans can redeem free tickets to watch the qualifying and training of big-name stars. The women’s singles main draw has been expanded to 96 players, and the first round will be held on September 25 and 26.
