Eighteen-year-old Connor Zilisch grabbed his first oval-track victory in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Saturday at pocono Raceway, with a little help from a ‘rookie’ crew chief, dale earnhardt Jr.
Zilisch, driving for JR Motorsports, made the decisive pass on Jesse Love in the closing laps to secure the win.
“I’ve been dying for this one,” Zilisch said. “I’ve been so close on the ovals lately, finishing second at Charlotte and Nashville. Having Dale Jr.on the box was pretty cool.”
Zilisch noted Earnhardt Jr.’s guidance during the race. “He was kicking me in the butt on some of those restarts, giving me some advice,” Zilisch said. “The advice from him is invaluable.”
