Karen Murerwa, a 34-year-old Nottingham resident, was sentenced to six years and four months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on September 10, 2026, after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault by penetration and one count of false imprisonment, according to regional media reporting.
Assault Details and Court Proceedings
The victim, a teenage schoolgirl unknown to Murerwa, was approached while walking near the perpetrator’s home in the Broxtowe estate on March 10, 2026, according to the Nottingham Post. Murerwa convinced the teenager to accompany her to a house on Seaton Crescent. Once inside, Murerwa locked the door and took the victim’s phone. The victim was then taken upstairs and subjected to a sustained sexual assault before being allowed to leave the property.
Sentencing and Official Responses
At Nottingham Crown Court, Judge James Sampson sentenced Murerwa to six years and four months in prison. The judge also imposed a lifetime sexual harm prevention order and ordered Murerwa to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
During the hearing, Judge Sampson commended the victim for her bravery in reporting the attack, stating that her decision to come forward may have saved another child from a similar experience,
as reported by the Nottingham Post.
Detective Sergeant Nicola Roddis-Ferrari of Nottinghamshire Police stated, Murerwa deliberately targeted this vulnerable young girl, coerced her into entering her home and restricted her movements before sexually assaulting her.
The investigating officer added that the victim had initially tried to be kind and helpful to Murerwa before the assault took place.
