Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly creating a specialized team focused on developing artificial general intelligence (AGI), with the goal of achieving AI that surpasses human intellect. This initiative underscores Meta’s commitment to leading in artificial intelligence (AI) and superintelligence development.
Zuckerberg is actively recruiting AI researchers and engineers for this superintelligence team, according to sources familiar with his plans. He believes Meta is uniquely positioned to outpace competitors in the AGI race. the company’s significant investment in AI, projected to reach $65 billion in 2025, includes building a massive data center to support these efforts.
The new team is expected to comprise around 50 members, with Zuckerberg personally involved in the recruitment process. Alexandr Wang, founder of Scale AI, is also anticipated to join meta’s AGI team following the completion of Meta’s investment in the startup.
This move follows reported internal dissatisfaction with the performance of Meta’s Llama 4 large language model.
