The 48th edition of the Zurich Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Maratón Madrid will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, bringing approximately 47,000 runners to the streets of the Spanish capital, including over 10,000 international participants from 110 countries.
The event features three races — a 10K, half marathon (21K), and marathon (42K) — all starting from the Paseo de la Castellana between Plaza de San Juan de la Cruz and Plaza del Doctor Marañón, with the finish line located on Paseo de Recoletos at the height of Calle Almirante.
Due to the celebration of the race, significant traffic disruptions will affect multiple districts across Madrid, including Centro, Salamanca, Retiro, Chamartín, Tetuán, Chamberí, Moncloa, Latina, Carabanchel, and Arganzuela, with road closures beginning early in the morning and extending into the afternoon.
To ensure public safety, the Madrid City Council will deploy a special operation involving Municipal Police and Mobility Agents to manage circulation and security throughout the event.
As a result of the race setup and dismantling, central lanes on Paseo de Recoletos will remain closed in both directions until 7:00 p.m., while Paseo de la Castellana will face segmented closures: from Plaza de Colón to Plaza de Emilio Castelar until 5:00 p.m., and from Plaza de Emilio Castelar to Plaza de San Juan de la Cruz until 12:30 p.m. Plaza de Cibeles will be closed to traffic starting at 5:30 a.m.
These traffic restrictions will impact a total of 109 regular EMT bus lines, requiring route modifications for public transportation across the city.
