Alexander Zverev’s pursuit of his first grass-court title at the Halle Open took ⁣a dramatic turn Friday. the second-seeded German rallied to defeat Italy’s Flavio Cobolli 6-4, ⁣7-6 (8), despite needing a mid-match toilet break due to ⁢sudden illness.

Zverev started strong,‍ breaking Cobolli in the first game. Though, ⁣while serving ‍in the second, he ‍requested ‍a break to vomit. Upon⁢ returning, Zverev visibly struggled, bending over in exhaustion after points.

despite not feeling ⁤well, Zverev managed to hold serve and secure the first set. The second set was tightly contested,‍ with Cobolli ⁣challenging Zverev’s movement. ⁤Ultimately, Zverev prevailed in a tiebreak, finishing with 22 winners.

Daniil Medvedev also advanced to the⁤ semifinals, defeating American Alex‍ Michelsen 6-4, 6-3.Medvedev,⁤ the third seed, overcame a nosebleed in the⁤ second set, requiring a medical timeout. He served effectively, preventing Michelsen from securing any break points.

“I think he’s the guy that I played the most in my career. I’m looking forward ‍to⁢ it,”‍ Zverev said of Medvedev. “A lot of things happened in the last 18 months. He’s one⁣ of my toughest opponents in ⁤my career. It’s going to be a great ‍match.”
