The team led by Professor Ki-Hoon Ahn from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Korea University Anam Hospital, Professor Lee Joo-Seong from the Department of Pediatrics, and Professor Kwang-Sik Lee from the AI ​​Center announced on the 20th the they have identified the relationship between preterm birth in Asians and maternal heart disease and developed a predictive model for preterm birth.

Premature labor is a birth that occurs between 20 and 37 weeks of pregnancy. In the case of newborns born before 37 weeks of age, mortality and morbidity may increase, and caution is needed as they may have various complications such as behavioral disorders, cerebral palsy, autism, and asthma.

Many studies to prevent premature birth are underway in foreign countries, and among them, a study that maternal heart disease is associated with premature birth has been reported in the West, but this is the first study on Asians.
