Donald Trump Targeted in Assassination Attempt at Mar-a-Lago Resort
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reported that Republican candidate Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
According to US media, the incident occurred on September 15 at 2:00 p.m. (Florida time) when a Secret Service agent discovered a gun barrel protruding from the fence of the Mar-a-Lago resort. Security forces responded swiftly, engaging with the subject and firing 4-6 bullets.
Mr. Trump was approximately 300-450 meters away from the shooter when the incident occurred. The Secret Service agents quickly intervened, covering him for protection, according to Steve Witkoff, the former US President’s golfing buddy.
Following the incident, Mr. Trump took to social media to reassure the public of his safety: ”There were some gunshots heard near where I was standing. But before the rumors get out of hand, I want you to know, I am safe and well.”
Security forces in Martin County, Florida, swiftly apprehended the suspect, who attempted to flee on the highway. The suspect was reportedly calm and unarmed when taken into custody.
Martin County Sheriff William D. Snyder described the suspect’s demeanor during the arrest: “The suspect was very calm when he was taken into custody, he did not show much emotion. He was unarmed when officers removed him from the vehicle.”
Democratic candidate Kamala Harris responded to the news, expressing relief that Mr. Trump was unharmed: “I have seen reports of a shooting near President Trump’s Florida resort, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.”
