On the 13th, the Democratic Party of Korea held a party committee to interpret the special party rules in relation to the controversial ‘handling of the number of votes received by candidates for resignation’, which was controversial during the presidential election process.

The Democratic Party will convene a party affairs committee meeting at the National Assembly this afternoon to discuss whether it is justified to exclude the resignation candidate’s votes from the number of valid votes in accordance with Article 59 (1) of the Special Party Regulations.

Previously, former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon filed an objection to the party leadership over the interpretation of the special party rules by the Central Election Commission. It is argued that the runoff vote was canceled as the Party Election Commission excluded the resignation candidate’s votes from the number of valid votes.

The party leadership drew a line on the interpretation of the party’s authority that the former leader had requested, but changed its position the day before (12th). If the controversy over invalid votes is not resolved, it seems that there will be difficulties in ‘one team formation’.

Yo Yong-jin, senior spokesperson for the Democratic Party, met with reporters the day before and said, “Candidate Lee Nak-yeon held a party committee and requested a vote interpretation through various routes.” explained the purpose.

Accordingly, the Democratic Party will put forward an agenda on the interpretation of the special party rules in the Party Affairs Committee on the same day and proceed with reinterpretation.

According to the party constitution of the Democratic Party, the party affairs committee is the highest decision-making body related to the execution of party affairs, in which the party representative, floor representative, supreme member, secretary-general, chairman of the central committee, chairman of the national committee, vice-chairman of the National Assembly, and city and provincial party chairpersons participate. It has the right to interpret.

About 80 members are expected to attend the meeting of the party committee.

However, even if the Party Affairs Committee interprets Article 59(1) and Article 60(1) of the Special Party Rules (the National Election Commission simply sums up the ballot counts announced in the primary election and decides the candidate who receives a majority of the valid votes as the elected winner) The party’s observation is that it is unlikely that the outcome of the primary will change.

As Song Young-gil, chairman of the Democratic Party, had dismissed Lee’s runoff claim, such as, “I already delivered a letter of recommendation to Lee Jae-myung to the National Election Commission on the day of the election on the 10th,” There is an interpretation that it is a paving stone for bringing about ‘Seungbok’.

In this regard, one Democratic Party leadership said, “The leadership role is to create a team by mediating, mediating, and resolving political conflicts.” .

The key is whether or not the former CEO Lee Nak-yeon will change his mind as a result of the decision of the party committee.

A former representative of the camp representative Lee said, “At least we can persuade them to agree with the result if we open the party committee and make a decision. We will make a decision in the future,” he said.

Until now, even if the results of the party committee do not change, there is an observation that Lee is highly likely to send a message about ‘victory to the primary’.
