Kim Jun-hyuk, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Suwon-jeong, Gyeonggi Province, has been controversial about statements he made in the past while appearing on YouTube.

Candidate Kim Jun-hyuk, a professor and historian at Hanshin University, said on the YouTube channel ‘Kim Yong-min TV’ in August 2022, “The person who played a very large role in sending comfort women to the war, saying he was giving back to the country, was (Ewha Womans University’s first president) Kim Hwal-ran.” He claimed, “During the military rule, students at Ewha Womans University were offered sexual favors to U.S. officers.”

Candidate Kim also mentioned Pastor Choi Tae-min on the same broadcast and said, “Even after Park Chung-hee was elected president, he was a sexual partner with Park Chung-hee,” or, “(Former President Park) must have had sex with volunteers and comfort women during the Japanese colonial period. “He was also known to have said.

In response to this, former President Park’s maternal grandson, Kim Byeong-gyu, filed a complaint against candidate Kim to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on charges of defamation.

Kim Byeong-gyu is the maternal grandson of former President Park’s older brother, Park Sang-hee.

When remarks related to former President Park became controversial, Candidate Kim’s camp stated, “The actions of former President Park Chung-hee that Candidate Kim mentioned in his appearance on a certain YouTube channel are based on already known testimony and records.”
