Due to heavy snow on the first day of the 2024 Gangwon Games, Asia’s first Winter Youth Olympic Games, some schedules were changed.

Heavy snow fell from early morning at the Pyeongchang Alpensia Sliding Center on the 20th, where the women’s luge singles and men’s doubles events were held. A heavy snow warning was issued for the southern mountains of Gangwon at 10 a.m. on this day, and a heavy snow warning was also issued for the central and northern mountains at 1 p.m.

At 8:30 a.m. when the game started, the temperature was -3 degrees Celsius, the perceived temperature was close to -8 degrees Celsius, and heavy snowfall continued.

With snow expected to continue accumulating, the luge competition was held as scheduled, but some stadiums had schedule changes due to the weather.


The ski jumping competition held at the Alpensia Ski Jump Center near the Sliding Center was postponed earlier than scheduled due to the weather.

The women’s normal hill match was changed from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the men’s match was changed from 1:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The alpine ski men’s super-G scheduled for the 21st at Jeongseon High1 Resort was postponed from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.

The competition organizing committee said, “The schedule is changing depending on weather conditions. Please check the official website frequently.”

In Gangneung, Gangwon Province, where the ice skating competition began, bad weather continues, with rain and strong winds.

Short track Choi Min-jeong’s one-point lesson, which was scheduled to be held at the external ice rink in front of the Gangneung Hockey Center from 2 PM on the 21st as one of the competition festival site events, was canceled.
