Regarding North Korea’s disclosure of its satellite launch plan, the National Security Bureau held an emergency Standing Committee of the National Security Council (NSC) on the 29th to discuss countermeasures. The National Security Office defined this as “a plan to launch a long-range ballistic missile in the name of a satellite” and said it would monitor the situation closely.

The National Security Bureau announced on the same day that it was reporting North Korea’s plan to launch a long-range ballistic missile under the name of a satellite to President Yoon and held an emergency NSC meeting presided over by National Security Bureau Director Cho Tae-yong . At the meeting, the standing members of the NSC discussed countermeasures after receiving a situation report from the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The National Security Office said, “The government continues to closely monitor related trends and plans to publish the government’s position on this through a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

The NSC emergency Standing Committee was attended by National Security Bureau Director Cho, Foreign Minister Park Jin, Unification Minister Kwon Young-se, Defense Minister Lee Jong-seop, Director of the National Intelligence Service Kim Kyu-hyun, Secretary General the NSC Kim Tae-hyo, and the 2nd Deputy Director of the National Security Bureau Lim Jong-deuk.
