The remains of General Hong Beom-do, an independence activist, return to Korea after 78 years of death.

At a briefing on the 12th, Blue House spokesman Park Kyung-mi announced that the remains of General Hong Beom-do, who are buried in Kzyl-Orda, Kazakhstan, will arrive in Korea on the 15th, Liberation Day. Spokesperson Park said, “President Moon Jae-in will send a special delegation headed by Minister of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Affairs Hwang Ki-cheol as a special envoy to Kazakhstan on the 15th to commemorate the remains. said. “The remains of General Hong Beom-do, who arrived in the Republic of Korea with the utmost courtesy on the evening of the 15th, will be buried at the Daejeon Cemetery on the 18th after a two-day public commemoration period on the 16th and 17th,” Park said.

The burial of the remains is in conjunction with the state visit of Kazakh President Tokayev. President Tokayev is scheduled to visit South Korea for two days from the 16th to the 17th of this month at the invitation of President Moon. It is the first visit by a Kazakh president to Korea in five years since President Nazarbayev in 2016. President Tokayev’s visit to Korea is the first since taking office.

This will be the second summit between President Moon and President Tokayev during his state visit to Kazakhstan in April 2019. Spokesperson Park said, “Kazakhstan is our largest trading partner and investment destination in Central Asia, and is a key partner in promoting the New Northern Policy. ” he said. At this summit, President Moon will review the results of follow-up cooperation projects that have been promoted since the first summit and discuss ways to expand substantive cooperation between the two countries in various fields such as transportation, infrastructure, construction, ICT, health, and environment. . In addition, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year, they will discuss ways to enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, and seek ways to strengthen cooperation on the regional and international stage. Spokesperson Park said, “I expect that it will serve as an opportunity to further consolidate the strategic partnership between Korea and Kazakhstan ahead of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and Kazakhstan next year.”
