South Korea, the United States, and Japan promote ‘new North Korea initiative’ to respond to North Korean threats and Chinese expansion

South Korea, the United States, and Japan are promoting a new ‘North Korea Initiative’ to respond to North Korea’s security threats.

The three countries’ security chiefs held a joint briefing at the Korea-US-Japan Security Chiefs’ Meeting held at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the 9th to discuss joint development of key minerals in response to China’s resource weaponization, trilateral response to cyber activities to raise funds for North Korea’s nuclear development, and fake actions. They announced that they had agreed to strengthen cooperation in responding to news.

The security chiefs of South Korea, the United States, and Japan reaffirmed North Korea’s obligation to denuclearize and prohibit military cooperation in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution, and decided to strengthen trilateral cooperation to ensure thorough implementation by the international community.

In addition, the security chiefs of the three countries confirmed their will to protect peace and security in the Taiwan Strait and declared that they would protect the so-called ‘freedom of navigation’ in the East and South China Seas. They also promised to respond to ‘economic coercion’. This means that beyond responding to North Korean security threats, we will also check Chinese expansion.

‘Comfort Women Victims Win’ 2nd Compensation Judgment Confirmed… Japanese compensation is unclear

The ruling that Japanese military comfort women victims filed in favor of the Japanese government for secondary damages was confirmed on the 9th. Because the Japanese government did not submit a notice of appeal by 00:00 on the same day, the appeal deadline, the appeal court decision was confirmed as is.

According to Yonhap News, the 33rd Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judge Koo Hoe-geun, Hwang Seong-mi, and Heo Ik-soo) canceled the first trial ruling in the second trial of a lawsuit filed against the Japanese government by 16 people, including Lee Yong-soo and the bereaved families of the late grandmothers Kwak Ye-nam and Kim Bok-dong, on the 23rd of last month. “The plaintiff’s claim is fully acknowledged,” the ruling ruled.

However, even if this ruling is confirmed, it is unclear whether actual compensation will be received from the Japanese government. This is because if the Japanese government does not voluntarily pay compensation by respecting the Korean court ruling, the victims will have to find Japanese government property that can be seized and apply to the court for compulsory disposition.

China’s first price crisis in 14 years since the global financial crisis… Deflation concerns rise

Prices in China have fallen to the most serious level since the global financial crisis.

According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics on the 9th, China’s CPI in November fell 0.5% compared to the same month last year, falling below both expectations (0.2% decline) and the previous month’s figure (0.2% decline). This is the lowest level in three years since November 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing.

China’s National Bureau of Statistics explained that the reason for the decline in CPI compared to the same month last year was a large drop in energy prices, and that the decline compared to the previous month was due to a decline in food prices as the supply of agricultural products increased due to warm weather along with the decline in energy prices.

Bruce Fang, chief economist for the Greater China region at Jones Lang LaSalle, a global real estate service company, said, “The continuous decline in China’s CPI could increase the risk of deflation.”

Gas station gas prices have fallen for 9 consecutive weeks… Further decline expected at the end of the year

Domestic petroleum product prices are expected to remain weak until the end of the year. It usually takes 2 to 3 weeks for international oil prices to be reflected in domestic prices, but this is because international oil prices have recently fallen.

Dubai oil, the standard for imported crude oil prices, was $77.3 per barrel, down $5.4 from the previous week. The international gasoline price fell by $5.0 to $86.6, and automobile diesel prices fell by $5.0 to $99.3.
