[영상] What is the Russian economic model? ‘Three ways’ to survive Western sanctions

(Seoul = Yonhap News) There are signs that the perception that the Russian economy is becoming increasingly difficult due to Western sanctions after Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year is spreading even within Russia.

Recently, Russian state television broadcast a debate about which economic model would be best for the country to deal with international sanctions: Cuba, Iran or North Korea.

On the 28th, Frances Scar, a reporter responsible for monitoring Russian state TV at the British public broadcaster BBC, tweeted some of the discussion video with English subtitles, saying, “(Russia) State TV held an important debate today. “

In the video, the moderator said, “There are three ways to tackle Western sanctions. The Cuban way, the North Korean way, and the Iranian way.” We heard from the panelists if this would be the best fit for Russia.

One panelist said, “Of course, it’s Iran,” and “Iran is closest to us (Russia) in terms of economic policy and domestic resources.”

Another panelist agreed, saying that Iran and Russia also have in common that they are multi-ethnic countries and have very challenging neighbors.

Another panelist said, “There is no country in the world that has more experience with ongoing lockdowns and economic sanctions than we do.”

Iran has been subject to sanctions such as an asset freeze and a trade embargo from the United States following the hostage crisis at the US embassy in Tehran.

The United States lifted economic sanctions against Iran in 1981, but reimposed them in 1987 on the grounds that Iran supported international terrorism.

As US economic sanctions tightened, Iran strengthened self-sufficiency by establishing a payment method that allows currency exchange with foreign countries without banks. Let’s see it in the video.
