[정치]Government: “Keeping an eye on the possibility of North Korean provocations in line with the US presidential election schedule”

September 1, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

The government said that South Korea and the United States are jointly monitoring the possibility that North Korea may engage in provocations to increase its political leverage in line with the U.S. presidential election schedule.

A key government official met with reporters today (the 1st) and said this, adding that the possibility of provocation has also been reported by several foreign media outlets.

He also explained that they are looking into the possibility that North Korea might carry out provocations in connection with internal political events, such as the anniversary of the founding of the regime on the 9th or the anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea on the 10th of next month.

The official assessed that there may be various strategic and military reasons for North Korea’s failure to carry out military provocations such as missile launches during the Ulchi Freedom Shield and UFS training periods, including discomfort over the issue being raised again following flood-related issues and North Korea-Russia military cooperation.

He added that although there were no further provocations, North Korea was carrying out military activities similar to usual, such as training.
