A day before Christmas, a disaster occurred in Sejong City. On the 24th, a tragedy occurred in a public bathhouse in Sejong City, where three women in their 70s were electrocuted and all died.

Sejong City and the Sejong Police Agency responded to a call from a citizen at the basement bathhouse of a motel in Jukrim-ri, Jochiwon-eup, at around 5:37 a.m. on this day. Police and fire authorities said that a woman in the locker room reported the incident after seeing three people collapsed in the hot tub at the women’s bathhouse.

As a result of the fire department’s investigation at the scene, all three women were in cardiac arrest. They were rushed to nearby Chungbuk National University Hospital, Cheongju Hana Hospital, and Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital, but all three women died. It is reported that they were all electrocuted.

At the time, there were several other people in the women’s bathhouse besides the women who collapsed, but only three people who entered the hot water bath were injured.

Police and fire authorities believe they were electrocuted in the bathtub.

The police suspect that electricity flowed into the hot water bath and are conducting a joint investigation with the National Institute of Forensic Science and the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation from around 1 p.m. to determine the cause of the short circuit.

The bathroom in question underwent an electrical safety inspection last June, but it was reported that there were no major problems at the time.

After the tragedy in which three women died in a public bathhouse, Sejong City began conducting electrical safety inspections at about 20 public bathhouses in the area.

The motel building where the accident occurred had one underground floor and three above-ground floors and was built and used in December 1984. The first basement floor has a women’s bathhouse and a boiler room, the first floor above ground is used as a counter and men’s bathhouse, and the second and third floors are used as motel rooms.
