Fionnuala Moran and Aaron Hartigan recently celebrated their wedding with a stunning event steeped in Irish culture and personal touches. From a sunrise-inspired color palette to a unique musical welcome, their wedding was a testament to their love and a joyful experience for all 140 guests. Here, Fionnuala shares the details of their special day, offering inspiration for couples planning their own celebrations.
Setting the Scene: Colour, Ceremony & A Touch of Irish Magic
The couple envisioned a vibrant and memorable wedding, starting with a striking colour theme. “Gold and pink and orange,” Fionnuala describes, “Vibrant sunrise was our colour theme for the day.” This warm palette infused the entire event, creating a joyful and inviting atmosphere.
The ceremony itself was notably poignant. “It’s coming up to a month as the day now, and the lasting memory I have is those clouds parting for the ceremony,” Fionnuala recalls. “It was the kind of moment where I was able to stop wearing my shoulders as earrings, and could just go in to the day and realy enjoy it.” This moment of natural beauty set the tone for a day filled with love and laughter.
A Unique Welcome: Bodhráns and Breaking Tradition
Fionnuala and Aaron were keen to incorporate authentic Irish traditions into their wedding, but with a modern twist. Rather of the commonly seen napkin-twirling tradition (frequently enough attributed to Greek customs), they opted for a truly Irish welcome.
“We wanted to incorporate one of the other ancient Irish instruments: The bodhrán,” Fionnuala explains. “We had organised a bodhrán lesson for everyone and there were 140 bodhráns under the tables! That was a big reveal for everyone, and they were all really shocked by that.” As the couple re-entered the room after a brief interlude, all 140 guests played the bodhrán in unison, creating a powerful and unforgettable moment. This innovative approach showcased their commitment to celebrating Irish heritage in a unique and engaging way.
Speeches, Songs & A Sensible Curfew
The couple clearly value connection and heartfelt expression. They hosted a remarkable 12 speeches throughout the wedding celebrations. “We love speeches, and we love our bride-and-groom party and wanted everyone to have a chance to speak,” Fionnuala shares. To manage the length, they strategically spread the speeches across the drinks reception, the meal, and the second day of the wedding.
Their first dance, while planned in theory, unfolded with charming spontaneity. “God bless us – we planned everything, except that dance, so we were just floating around in circles; we didn’t have a breeze, it was very amusing,” Fionnuala laughs. They chose “Hold On” by Laurel (available on Spotify as ”Untitled”), a gorgeous song that perfectly complemented the moment.
The entertainment continued with an extraordinary eight-piece band featuring Chloe Agnew, Melina malone, and Niall from Eurosong. The band’s versatility ensured there was something for everyone, and the music continued until a sensible 2am.
