(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Im Soon-hyeon = Shohei Ohtani (28, Los Angeles Angels) broke his record for most strikeouts in a game with 13 and achieved 6 wins in the season.

Ohtani started as a pitcher and the second batter in the home game against the Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball (MLB) held at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California on the 23rd (Korean time).

Starting pitcher Ohtani gave up only two hits and one walk in eight innings and pitched without a score.

Even more brilliant than a scoreless pitch was that he struck out 13 and broke his own record for most strikeouts in a game.

Previously, Ohtani scored 12 strikeouts in six innings against the Houston Astros on April 21, and scored his first win of the season with a scoreless pitch.

Ohtani, who started the game by striking out two in the first inning, turned all three batters into strikeouts in the second inning, raising expectations for a new record.

Ohtani, who struck out one in the third inning, struck out another three in the fourth inning and tied the Kansas City batters tightly.

Ohtani, who tied the previous record by adding one in the 5th and two in the 7th, climbed the mound in the 8th and set a new record by striking out Emanuel Rivera after two strikes.

Ohtani threw 108 balls in the eighth inning, breaking the season record for most pitching.

After scoring eight innings, Ohtani lowered his ERA from 3.28 to 2.94.

Ohtani also played 3 at bats, 1 hit and 1 walk.

His batting average for the season improved slightly from 0.260 to 0.261 (69 hits in 264 at-bats).

The Angels won 5-0 thanks to Ohtani’s scoreless pitch and David McKinnon’s two RBI, who made his big league debut that day.
