13th Bar Exam 2024: Public Law Test Results and Record of Unexpected Questions

Type of record of unexpected questions “the most difficult”… First CBT test was “satisfactory”

[법률저널=안혜성 기자] On the first day of this year’s bar exam, the Public Law test contained unusual multiple-choice questions, cases, and record types, making the perceived difficulty high.

On the 9th, when the 5-day long journey of the 13th Bar Exam 2024 began, the optional, case-type and record-type exams for public law subjects were held. Candidates who met at the Seoul National University Law School exam center showed an overall high level of perceived difficulty and expressed the opinion that the record type, which contained unfamiliar question types, was the most difficult. Last year the public law exam received a general response that it was difficult due to unfamiliar content and difficult to understand questions, and this year it received a similar rating.

Applicant A, who rated the written exam as the most difficult in this public law exam, stated: “In the second written exam, the constitutional application and the temporary injunction application were awarded 15 points, which was unexpected.” He expressed his opinion that it was a difficult exam overall, stating: “Both the case and multiple choice types were challenging.”

The Public Law exam held on the 9th, when the 5-day long journey of the 13th Bar Exam 2024 began, had a high level of perceived difficulty due to unknown questions in the optional, case and record types. /The photo shows the exam room of Seoul National University Law School, where the bar exam was held on the 9th.

Candidate B explained, “Overall, there were a lot of things I hadn’t thought about” and “The type of record was the most difficult and there was a question about national compensation that had never been asked before.” He went on to say, “The optional type was 5 choices anyway, so it was fine, but the type of case involved the right of veto, and while that has become an issue recently, there was an unusual aspect to it because there was no precedent relevant.”

Applicant C’s opinion was similar. He said, “Some unknown things came out, although there was a change in the trend,” and “I was confused because it wasn’t something that had a clear precedent, but issues related to the validity of the veto.” . Furthermore, he added, “even in the case of cases based on documents, a sort of unified application has been created that had never been presented before”.

In the case of candidate D, “There were many things that were unfamiliar to me, but in the case of the case study, the problems were somehow related to the parts that appeared in the previous exam. However, it seemed to be so distorted that it was difficult to find the point,” he said. He commented: “The type of record was based on precedents of the optional type and it would have been ok if I could have remembered it.”

As for the optional type, he said: “It was a bit difficult,” and added: “Usually, the optional type is studied by memorizing, past exams and looking at the last precedents of the last three years, but this time , the basic questions from the textbook were asked, so it would have been difficult to prepare in the usual way.”

All test participants expressed satisfaction with the CBT method implemented for the first time this year. Candidates said: “The record type requires copying many clauses, but the difficult parts not related to the skills assessment have been resolved,” “It is much more convenient and time-saving,” and “The physical burden has been reduced as there is no inconvenience of writing, deleting and rewriting.” , “I’m the kind of person who loses money because my writing speed is slow, but the time I spent writing answers was reduced and I was able to spend enough time revising.”

Meanwhile, this exam will be held until the 13th. Elective, case and record criminal law exams will be held on the 10th. There will be a day of rest on the 11th. Civil law and record type exams will be held on the 12th. The Civil Law and Elective Tests will be held on the 13th, which will conclude the long journey.

Due to the low bar exam pass rate, issues such as the conversion of law schools into high-level exam academies, failure to pass the bar exam, and typos are highlighted. Approximately 1,730 successful applicants are expected to be selected this year, and the announcement of selected applicants is expected on April 19.
